WHĀNAU ORA OUTCOMES

The Outcomes Framework confirms that Whānau Ora is achieved when whānau are:

• self-managing

• living healthy lifestyles

• participating fully in society

• confidently participating in Te Ao Māori

• economically secure and successfully involved in wealth creation

• cohesive, resilient and nurturing

• responsible stewards of their natural and living environments.

The framework recognises the long-term and progressive change required for whānau to achieve these aspirational goals by including short, medium and long-term outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Whānau Ora Service Delivery – working alongside whānau who have been impacted by civil defence emergencies to:

• Connect and support whānau to services, resources and opportunities, so that they can recover from the impacts of emergency events.

• Identify strengths within whānau, to facilitate and mentor whānau, identifying their aspirations, drawing on a range of approaches to support whānau to achieve their moemoea.

• Using the Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope (PATH) tool for whānau planning.

• Maintain and enhance active working relationships between providers, communitIes, whānau, hapu and iwi to strengthen a whānau centred approach so whānau achieve their moemoea.

Te Tauihu Emergency Management:

• Facilitate and support Te Tauihu Marae Emergency Management rōpu development, including Ipu Ohotata (emergency containers).

• Work with the wider Māori community to better understand their roles in an emergency declaration.

• Develop and maintain an annual training calendar, that includes Emergency Management Group training, as well as Te Kotahi based training modules.

• Develop a communications strategy for Iwi/Māori emergency management participation and promotion across Te Tauihu.

• Work closely with Marlborough Emergency Management Group and Nelson Tasman Emergency Management Group in terms of the partnership model.

• Review and report on outcomes from Te Tauihu Emergency Management Initiative Report 2019. • Participate in emergency management events.

• Other duties as required by the Pouwhakahaere Rauemi.

Reporting:

Where applicable, ensure that all required reporting including whānau surveys are done in a timely manner.

Legal/Risk Management:

• Ensure operational activities comply with internal systems controls, policies and procedures, legal and regulatory requirements.

• Regular reporting to the Pouwhakahaere which includes risk and options and mitigation of.

Communication/Teamwork:

• Show appropriate respect and understanding to all cultures.

• Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings.

• Ensure all areas of concern/potential complaints are immediately brought to the attention of the Pouwhakahaere.

• Be a team player.

Culture:

• Promote and foster Te Reo me ona Tikanga Māori.

• Maintain a commitment to personal cultural development.

Health and Safety:

• Take responsibility for own health, safety and wellbeing.

• Ensure own actions keep self and others safe.

• Identify, report and assist to eliminate hazards in the workplace.

• Participate in local workplace safety management practices.

Personal development:

• Undertake core training modules required of this position.

• Assist others to develop their skills.

APPLICANT SPECIFICATIONS:

• The ability to successfully engage and gain the confidence of whānau.

• Demonstrated knowledge in emergency management.

• Relevant Whānau Ora qualification (health, social science or humanities)

• Knowledge of Treaty of Waitangi and tikanga Māori, Te Reo Māori.

• Full clean driver licence.

• Experienced in Microsoft products.

• Problem solving experience.

• Commitment to ongoing training.
