Sharing our stories
Last month, our Pouwhakahaere Rauemi Dr Lorr Eade and Emergency Strategy Project Lead Kahutane Waanga spoke at an emergency management wānanga in Porirua organised by national emergency rōpū Ohu Mahi, which they both sit on.
Lorr and Kahu presented to iwi reps and National Emergency Management Agency officials about Te Tauihu iwi experiences in emergencies over the past decade or so. We're not short on stories!
It was a good opportunity to share whānau experiences with those who create response frameworks and also to connect with other iwi throughout the country.
“Some of the experiences we heard about were raw,” says Lorr, “but a moving reminder that the things we do to prepare today can make a difference.”
