Kai pai tō mahi!

In emergencies, the EOC (Emergency Control Centre) becomes a pretty important place. For the recent weather event across Te Tauihu, EOCs were set up in both Nelson/Tasman and also in Marlborough. Ngā iwi o Te Tauihu work as part of these EOCs and utilise staff from a number of Māori organisations who have undertaken emergency training to run the Iwi Liaison Desk.

But the response from the Māori community ran much deeper than that - from all the marae who were ready and on standby, with some activated to cook for people isolated in the floods, to Māori health provider Te Piki Oranga who made hundreds of welfare calls, to Te Pātaka staff who ensured no whānau was without kai - this response was a community effort all the way! Kai pai tō mahi!
